Empowering Youth Through Dance: The Mindful Moments in Movement Matter Program

Robin Barker has extensive experience working with youth, and young adults in the Willie Hutch Jones program in collaboration Buffalo Public School’s afterschool program and the African American Cultural Center, among other teaching roles. Her innovative program, Mindful Moments in Movement Matter, focuses on connecting with the spirit and channeling positive energy into the body, as in the Alexander Technique. Starting with slow movements to stretch and strengthen soft and core muscles, the program prepares participants for larger movements that help eliminate stress. This technique allows individuals to channel emotions from human experiences into creative expression through dance. By working on smaller tissues and inner core muscles, the program helps release stress, anxiety, and depression, enabling participants to embrace good energy and tap into a creative state of mind without inhibitions or the stress of daily life.
